The short answer

Arrow’s published managed-plan scope records failed or unavailable checks separately and retries them once. A failed collection is missing evidence, not proof that your brand was absent from an AI answer.

Keep availability separate from visibility

A completed answer that does not mention your business is a valid observation of absence within that answer. A timeout or unavailable tool provides no comparable answer to classify. Combining both as “not mentioned” would make collection problems look like a visibility decline.

Review the scheduled checks, successful responses and unresolved gaps together. When calculating a rate, state which observations form the denominator and use the same rule across reporting periods. A change in coverage should remain visible beside the headline metric.

Inspect the retry and its context

The published allowance is one retry for a failed or unavailable check. A later successful answer needs its own collection date and method. It should not be presented as if it had been observed at the time of the original failed attempt.

If one tool has repeated gaps, discuss what can actually be observed before relying on comparisons. Changing the tool or collection surface changes the measurement scope. Record the decision rather than silently replacing an unavailable result with a different kind of observation.

What to check

  1. Check whether “not mentioned” refers to a completed answer.
  2. Review failed checks and the outcome of the included retry.
  3. Keep the coverage count and denominator beside any visibility rate.

A practical example

Illustrative example: nine answers are collected and one request fails. Three collected answers mention the brand. If the report measures mentions among valid answers, it describes three of nine and separately shows one missing check; the failure is not treated as a tenth negative answer.
