GEO: build, buy or combine
Decide between manual checks, dedicated platforms, existing SEO tools and your own measurement system.
Start with the decision you need to make and the evidence your team can maintain. These guides compare operating approaches, explain when another tool adds value and connect the measurement choice to useful source pages. Recommendations are editorial guidance, not a vendor benchmark.
- Define a small, inspectable baseline before expanding the toolset.
- Compare collection, maintenance and reporting responsibilities.
- Connect the chosen workflow to source improvements and repeatable reviews.

Are manual AI checks enough, or do I need visibility software?
Manual checks can support an initial investigation when the question set is small and someone can preserve the evidence consistently. Consider software when repeated collection, multiple markets or review work becomes difficult to maintain. Decide from the workload and evidence you need, not from a visibility score alone.
Should we build our own AI visibility tracker or buy a platform?
Build when your team has a specific measurement requirement and can maintain collection, evidence storage, evaluation and reporting. Buy when an available product meets those requirements with less ongoing operational work. A hybrid approach can use a platform for collection while keeping your own analysis and decision history.
Can my existing SEO tools replace a separate AI visibility platform?
They may cover part of the work. Check whether your current tools provide the actual AI answers, cited sources and collection context you need, as well as ordinary search data. Buy an additional product only for a demonstrated gap that affects your decisions.
Do I need more than one AI visibility tool?
Use more than one tool only when the additional product answers a distinct, useful question that the first cannot cover. Two dashboards with different scores are not automatically better evidence. Define their separate roles and compare their collection methods before combining results.
Should I fix my website before paying for GEO software?
Fix clear source-page problems as soon as you have verified them, while preserving a small baseline for later comparison. If your offer is unclear or an important page is inaccessible, collecting more observations alone will not resolve that problem. Use software when it supports a defined measurement or delivery need.
Should buyer questions become an answer hub or blog posts?
Use an answer hub for focused questions that need a clear, maintainable response and a useful reading path. Use a longer article when readers need research, a worked example or several connected decisions. Choose one primary page for each intent and link supporting material instead of publishing two near-identical answers.
