Use a fixed set of relevant guest questions and save complete responses with the product, collection method, date, language and location context. Count hotel mentions, linked citations and explicit recommendations separately. Include non-mentions and failed checks, and report the denominator and comparison set for each metric.
Preserve a property-level baseline
Define the intended property names and official domains before counting outcomes. A mention of a portfolio brand or similarly named hotel should not automatically count as a mention of the Miami property.
Retain the exact question and evidence for each observation. A screenshot or response record should let the hotel team inspect why a result was classified as a mention or recommendation.
Report coverage alongside results
Count valid responses separately from failed or unavailable requests. If a product cannot be observed, leave that coverage gap visible rather than replacing it with a different surface without explanation.
When a website change is followed by a different answer, record the timing and conditions. The sequence is an observation and does not by itself establish causation.
What to check
- Define the hotel entity and question panel.
- Keep mentions, citations and recommendations separate.
- Show valid responses, non-mentions and missing coverage.
A practical example
In an illustrative ten-response panel, three hotel mentions and one official-site citation are separate counts. Two additional failed checks are reported as missing coverage, not as negative guest recommendations.
